JILL SHANNON
Jill Shannon, who is Personal Trainer, champion athlete and Pilates instructor, wrote a brilliant article in Accent magazine telling how Pilates has helped her get over a serious back injury and how it lets her get on with her life and her training. Jill is a regular contributor to Accent magazine and it always enjoy reading her articles as I too was a competitive club runner, although definitely no where near to Jill’s standard, and find her writing uplifting. Reading her Pilates article prompted me to invite her to attend one of my classes, which I am happy to say she now does, and I think we will be able to learn from each other and it is tremendous for me to meet someone who is as enthusiastic about Pilates as I am.
Mamma Mia Mamma Mia is playing in Belfast, 10 to 29 March at the Odyssey Arena, and I got to teach Carrie Grant, who plays keyboards, and Ali Breaker, who is a costumer designer, at my Friday lunch class at LA Fitness. They were lovely to talk and we are now trying to arrange a two to one class for them which should prove to be useful for both Carrie and Ali. New Qualifications
I have completed two new qualifications
· Sacroiliac & Hip certification course through the Pilates Institute.
· Shoulder Girdle & Neck certification course through the Pilates Institute.
These courses were held at the Physiotherapy unit in St Thomas's Hospital, Westminster, London. The physio who took the courses was Amanda Howard and she was brilliant. I learned a lot and I'm now even better equipped to teach people with problems in these areas than I was before.
Newry City's Chris Morgan Does Pilates

Footballer Chris Morgan, once of Glentoran and Linfield and now of Newry City, joined one of my classes and discovered the benefits of a regular Pilates routine.
He is not the first footballer to benefit from the method. Manchester United's Ryan Giggs has used Pilates and Yoga to beat his long term hamstring problems. Bolton's Gary Speed was introduced to Pilates by his manager Sam Allardyce and says its extended his career and allowed him to stay free of injuries. Whilst at West Ham Marlon Harewood used Pilates to beat a serious back injury. Sam Allardyce introduced Pilates sessions to the players afternoon training sessions when he was at Bolton and Newcastle United. Other players who have used Pilates in their training include Chelsea's Tal Ben-Haim and West Ham's Craig Bellamy.

Northern Woman Summer Special

Actress and Yoga Instructor Phillipa Peak attended my classes in LA Fitness when she was in Belfast filming children’s TV programme Emu with Rod Hull’s son Toby Hull. She said she has really enjoyed discovering Pilates and is going to try and incorporate some Pilates moves into her Yoga classes. She also showed me some Yoga moves that I could work into my Pilates classes. It was been brilliant for me to learn from someone who is so into what they do and to be able to introduce them to Pilates. I would love to have the chance to attend one of Phillipa’s classes someday.
She has starred in the films Heartlands, The Claim, King Lear, Macbeth and Sirens. She has also appeared as “Effie Harrison” in Emmerdale and has had appearances in Casualty, Doctors, Plastic Man and the Afternoon Play.
Cats
I was privileged to have had the chance to teach some of the cast from Cats, www.catstour.co.uk, including Lorraine Chappell who plays Bombalurina and Trevor Schoonraad who plays Quaxo and Mistoffeelees. Their control, flexibility and core strength were just amazing and they were lovely people a well.
South Belfast Life Magazine
In an issue of South Belfast Life magazine there was an interview with Darlene McCormick who I taught 1 to 1. In the article she talked about how she had recently discovered Pilates and its benefits.
